Nebraska tax details

The Nebraska Department of Revenue (DOR) made a few changes for the 2025 tax year. Most notably, they now accept e-filed amended tax returns.

The Nebraska DOR added the following credits:

  • Family Caregiver Tax Credit
  • Nebraska Pregnancy Help Act Credit for contributors
  • Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Direct Support Professional Tax Credit

The Nebraska DOR also added deductions for the following:

  • Nebraska National Guard income exclusion included in Federal AGI
  • Relocation Incentive Act employee wage exclusion
  • Gain on the sale or exchange of bullion

The Nebraska DOR also added additions for the following:

2025 Nebraska extension

An extension extends the time you have to file your return by up to 6 months. If you need to pay taxes, you are required to pay the amount due by April 15, 2026.

You need to pay at least 90% of your taxes by April 15, 2026. If you pay late, you may be charged interest of NaN% on any unpaid taxes.

If you expect a refund from Nebraska:
Automatic with an accepted federal extension.

If you expect to owe Nebraska taxes:
Submit NE Form 4868N with your payment by April 15, 2026.

If your federal extension is not accepted, a Nebraska extension can be requested with NE Form 4868N.
