Missouri tax details

The Missouri Department of Revenue made a few changes for the 2025 tax year.

The top individual income tax rate was lowered from 4.8% to 4.7%.

Capital gains reported on your federal return can now be subtracted from Missouri income.

The First Time Homebuyers Deduction and the Long-Term Dignity Savings Account Deduction have been removed.

If you mailed your Missouri tax return, you should wait 3 to 4 weeks before checking your MO refund status. Once processed, it may take 5 to 7 business days for your refund to appear in your bank account or on a prepaid debit card.

2025 Missouri extension

An extension extends the time you have to file your return by up to 6 months. If you need to pay taxes, you are required to pay the amount due by April 15, 2026.

You need to pay 90% of your taxes by April 15, 2026. If you pay late, you may be charged a 5% late penalty and interest (1.25% per month) on any unpaid taxes.

If you expect a refund from Missouri:
Automatic with an accepted federal extension.

If you expect to owe Missouri taxes:
Submit Form MO-60 with your payment by April 15, 2026.

If your federal extension is not accepted, a Missouri extension can be requested with Form MO-60.
