The Hawaii Department of Taxation made a few changes for the 2025 tax year.
Hawaii changed its tax brackets this year, so if your income stayed the same your tax liability should decrease.
The Pass-Through Entity (PTE) tax credit has also been amended for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2023. Qualified members of a partnership or S-corp may claim a nonrefundable credit for their pro-rata share of the taxes paid at the entity level. Any excess of the credit over tax liability may be carried over to subsequent years until exhausted.
Lastly, taxpayers may now exclude up to $8,636 of their military reserve or Hawaii National Guard duty pay from their income.
