Georgia tax details

The Georgia Department of Revenue made a few changes for the 2025 tax year.

The tax rate decreased from 5.39% to 5.19%. The Child and Dependent Care Expense Credit increased from 30% to 50% of the federal credit.

Georgia extended the Qualified Rural Hospital Organization Expense Tax Credit and reduced the number of carryforward years for several other credits. Two new credits were added: the Timber Tax Credit (2025) and Converted Vehicle Tax Credit.

For part-year residents: The Itemizer Credit has always been available if you lived in Georgia on the last day of the tax year. Now, you are also eligible to claim the credit if you lived in Georgia for 183 days or more.
