Connecticut tax details

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services made few changes for the 2025 tax year.

  • Several new credits have been added to Schedule CT-IT (Income Tax Credit Summary): Employer CHET Contributions Tax Credit, University of Connecticut Inventive Program Tax Credit, and Workforce Housing Opportunity Development Tax Credit. The Insurance Reinvestment Fund Tax Credit is no longer available.
  • Any taxpayer eligible for the Connecticut Earned Income Tax Credit that has at least one qualifying child will receive an additional $250 to their CT EITC.
  • The CHET Baby Scholars Fund was replaced with the Connecticut Baby Bond Trust.
  • For pension and annuity calculations, 75% of IRA distributions are now included (previously 50%).

Ways to receive your refund

Get your Connecticut refund in your checking or savings account, on a paper check, or put it towards next year's Connecticut taxes. First time filers of Connecticut will not be able to choose direct deposit.

Refund status for e-filed tax returns

If you filed your Connecticut tax return electronically, you can check your CT refund status 4-5 business days after the Connecticut Department of Revenue accepts your return.

Refund status for mailed tax returns

If you mailed your Connecticut tax return, you should wait 10 to 12 weeks before checking your CT refund status.

Pay by mail

Make your check payable to Commissioner of Revenue Services. Write "2025 For CT-1040" and your SSN(s) on the front of your check. Sign your check and clip it to the front of your return.

Due by April 15, 2026

Pay by mail with e-filed return

Use Form CT-1040V to mail in paper check. Do not send in a copy of your return with your payment if you filed your taxes electronically.

2025 Connecticut extension

An extension extends the time you have to file your return until October 15, 2026. If you need to pay taxes, you are required to pay the amount due by April 15, 2026.

You need to pay 90% of your taxes by April 15, 2026. If you pay late, you may be charged a 10% late penalty and interest (1% per month) on any unpaid taxes.

If you expect a refund from Connecticut:

Automatic with an accepted federal extension.

If you expect to owe Connecticut taxes:

Submit form CT-1040 EXT with payment by April 15, 2026.

If you did not request a federal extension or expect to owe additional Connecticut income tax, a Connecticut extension can be requested with form CT-1040 EXT.
