You don't always need a
Form 1099-NEC to report the income you received. The
1099-NEC form is not e-filed by the IRS like a
Form W-2 is.
If there wasn't any federal or state tax withheld from your
1099-NEC income, you can just enter the self-employment income directly on the
Schedule C, whether or not it's on a
1099-NEC. If it's not self-employment income, then enter it in the appropriate place in the software, such as farm income or rental income.
Menu Path:
Income > Business / Rental Income > Business Income (Schedule C)
Menu Path:
Income > Business / Rental Income > Rental Income (Schedule E)
Menu Path:
Income > Business / Rental Income > Farm Income (Schedule F)
If you had federal or state tax withheld from your
1099-NEC income, you'll want to get a copy of your
1099-NEC from the payer so you can report the withholdings on your return.
What if I didn't receive a 1099-MISC?
