What if I didn't receive a 1099-MISC?

Menu Path: Income > Business / Rental Income > Business Income (Schedule C)

You don't always need a Form 1099-MISC to report the income you received. The 1099-MISC is not e-filed with the IRS like a W-2 is (though it is e-filed with some states).

If there wasn't any federal or state tax withheld from your 1099-MISC income, you can just enter the self-employment income directly on the business, whether or not it's on a 1099-MISC. If it's not self-employment income, then enter it in the appropriate place such as farm income, rental income, royalty income, or miscellaneous other income.

If you had federal or state tax withheld from your 1099-MISC income, you'll want to get a copy of your 1099-MISC from the payer so you can report the withholdings on your return.
