How does Authenticator App Verification work?
If you want to add an extra layer of security to your account, choose to enable Authenticator App Verification. This is the most secure type of 2-Step Verification we offer for FreeTaxUSA.com.
If you choose to use this 2-Step Verification method, you'll need to download an authentication app on your phone or other mobile device (i.e. tablets) (such as Google Authenticator). You'll then be shown a QR code to scan with the app which is linked to a "secret key." This "secret key" will generate 6-digit codes which you'll use to sign in to your account.
Every time you sign in to your account from a device we don't recognize, you'll need to enter the 6-digit code generated by the app.
If you ever choose to turn off Authenticator App Verification, you'll need to use Email Verification or Phone Verification to sign in, unless you're signing in from a recognized device.
