What are my total federal tax payments?

Your total federal tax payments are the total of any tax withholdings and payments you made in 2025 as well as any refundable credits you expect to receive. This doesn't include any payment you make with your extension (if applicable). Examples include:

  • Federal tax withheld from your W-2, Box 2; W-2G, Box 4; or 1099-R, Box 4 forms
  • 2025 federal estimated tax payments
  • 2024 federal applied refund amounts
  • Any federal refundable tax credits you expect to receive (e.g., Earned Income Tax Credit)
Also, if your situation is similar to last year, then a good way to estimate your 2025 payments would be to look at last year's tax return. Your 2024 Form 1040, Line 33 shows your total tax payments.

If you didn't make any federal tax payments or have anything withheld, enter zero (0).
