Why wasn't my federal tax payment automatically cancelled when my return was rejected?

If your federal return is rejected in the same week that the tax due payment was made, the pending charge for that payment will be cancelled. If we're unable to cancel the payment after your return is rejected, we'll still attempt to finalize the payment once your return is accepted as long as your tax due amount doesn't change.

If the payment was successfully cancelled and is still showing a pending charge in your bank account, that pending charge will eventually drop.

Why do I still have a pending charge?
