North Dakota 2018 Tax Updates

There have been some changes for the North Dakota 2017 tax year.

The Microbusiness tax credit has been discontinued. The Housing incentive fund tax credit is now called the Housing incentive fund tax credit carryover.

To claim certain tax credits or subtractions, taxpayers need to confirm they have paid all state and local taxes by attaching a Property Tax Clearance Record to your tax return. Property tax clearance records can be obtained from each North Dakota county in which they own 50% or more of any real property.

The Angel fund investment tax credit is now only for credits made in angel funds before July 1, 2017. For credits made by angel funds after June 30, 2017, taxpayers can now claim the Angel investor investment tax credit.

The Stillborn child deduction is added this year. If eligible, taxpayers can claim $4,050 for this deduction.

The tax rates for North Dakota have stayed the same while taxable income thresholds have increased. This means that this year some taxpayers will have a lower tax liability than last year.
