Minnesota 2018 Tax Updates

The Department of Minnesota has added some new credits and subtractions starting in the 2017 tax year.

Minnesota is now allowing new credits against tax for student loan payments, attaining a master's degree in teacher's licensure field, and education savings account contributions. They are also allowing a refundable credit for taxes paid to Wisconsin.

Minnesota is now allowing new subtractions for social security income taxed on the federal return, interest from a first-time homebuyer savings account, discharge of indebtedness of educational loans, and education savings account contributions.
