Kansas Tax Details

The Kansas Department of Revenue made a few changes for the 2018 tax year. First, a new subtraction was added for contributions to an ABLE savings account. In regard to credits, the Credit for Child and Dependent Care Expenses has been restored.

Also of note, half of federally claimed medical and dental expenses are now included as itemized deductions on Kansas tax returns. However, most people will not benefit from this because the federal standard deduction has nearly doubled from last year to this year. Thus, most people who itemized deductions last year will not be doing so this year.
