The Iowa department of Revenue made several changes for the 2018 tax laws. Iowa's income tax brackets have changed slightly, along with several school district tax rates. The standard deduction for Iowa returns has increased to $2,030 ($5,000 for married filing jointly filers).
A special election for section 179 expenses is added to the Depreciation Adjustment Schedule, and the taxpayers trust fund tax credit is removed. The Educator Expenses is now supported on Iowa state returns. Additionally, Iowa does not conform with many of the federal tax changes for this year. Iowa residents are still eligible to claim the same itemized deductions as last year, even though many of these deductions are no longer eligible for federal returns.
