What are START Savings Program Contributions?

The Student Tuition Assistance & Revenue Trust program, AKA the START Savings Program, is a savings plan designed to help families deal with the growing cost of educating their children.

START Savings Program Contributions are contributions made to a Louisiana START savings account (529 College Savings account) for a qualified beneficiary.

START account holders with a filing status of Single, Married Filing Separately, Head of Household, and Qualifying Widow(er) can exempt up to $2,400 in contributions per beneficiary from Louisiana taxable income. Account holders with a filing status of Married Filing Jointly can each exempt up to $4,800 in contributions per beneficiary from Louisiana taxable income. The exemption isn't allowed for contributions to a START K12 account.
