Questions & Answers
How much rent can I deduct?
You can deduct up to $3,000 ($1,500 if Married Filing Separately) or the amount of actual rent paid. Enter in the full amount of rent you paid (half if Married Filing Separately). If it is more than $3,000, we will automatically use $3,000 as the deduction ($1,500 if Married Filing Separately).
Enter the amount of rent paid for the whole year.
Important: Keep copies of your rental receipts, landlord identifying information, and lease agreements as Indiana can require you to provide this information.
If you are Married Filing Separately, enter half of the amount of rent paid by you and your spouse. Each spouse will receive half of the deduction (limited to $1,500 each).
