Questions & Answers

Am I required to make Illinois estimated income tax payments?

Most people don't need to make Illinois estimated income tax payments because they have enough tax withheld from their paychecks.

You must make Illinois estimated income tax payments if you reasonably expect your 2019 tax liability to exceed $500 after subtracting your Illinois withholding and tax credits. If you don't pay at least 90 percent of your 2019 expected tax or at least 100 percent of your 2018 tax, you may be subject to penalties or fees.
