Charitable Contributions and State or Local Tax Credits

Some states and local governments have offered tax credits for charitable contributions given to the state or local government. Generally, if you receive a tax credit for a charitable contribution that you made to a charitable organization (this includes donations to a state or local government) it is NOT deductible as an itemized deduction on your federal Schedule A.

There is an exception for any contribution where you received a tax credit of 15% or less of the amount of the contribution.
