Questions & Answers
What medical expenses can I include?
Only include medical expenses you paid for this year that weren't reimbursed by insurance or another source.
You also need to have paid these expenses with after-tax money. This means that you can't deduct medical expenses that you paid for with a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) if you contribute a part of your income on a pre-tax basis to pay for the qualified benefit. You also can't deduct health insurance premiums if those premiums were paid by your employer with pre-tax dollars.
