What is the Active Duty Military Colorado Home Subtraction?

Colorado allows taxpayers who were formerly Colorado residents and in 2019 are reacquiring residency to subtract the amount of compensation received for active duty military service in the armed forces for the United States.

You must keep evidence that you reacquired residency in 2019 for at least one year. Acceptable evidence that you reacquired residency include the following:

  • Registering to vote in Colorado
  • Purchasing residential property or an unimproved lot in Colorado
  • Titling and registering a motor vehicle in Colorado
  • Notifying the state of your previous legal residence of the intent to make Colorado your legal residence
  • Preparing a new last will and testament that indicate Colorado as your state of legal residence
