Questions & Answers

Can I carry forward amounts contributed to an Oregon 529 college savings plan?

You can subtract up to $5,030 for Married Filing Jointly returns or up to $2,515 for all other returns for carried over contributions made to a 529 Oregon College Savings Network account prior to 2021.

If you made a contribution in a tax year that started before January 1, 2020 that was more than the maximum allowable subtraction for that year, you can carry forward the remaining contribution not subtracted over the next four years. Rollovers from other 529 plans into an Oregon 529 plan are considered new contributions and qualify for the subtraction. Keep a copy of your account statement with your tax records.
