What is the Vermont Property Tax Credit Claim?

Vermont homeowners may be eligible for a credit against their 2022/2023 Vermont property tax. The 2022 property tax credit is based on 2021 household income and 2021/2022 property tax.

A homeowner may be eligible for a credit if all of the following requirements are met:

  1. You filed a valid Homestead Declaration.
  2. You were domiciled in Vermont all of calendar year 2021.
  3. You own the property as your principal residence on April 1, 2022.
  4. You aren't claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer for tax year 2021.
  5. You didn't have household income in 2021 more than $136,900 (Determine household income by completing Schedule HI-144).
The Property Tax Credit Claim is due by April 18, 2022.

The maximum 2022 Property Tax Credit is $8,000. The property tax credit will appear as a state payment on your 2022/2023 property tax bill.
