Questions & Answers

Do I qualify to claim the Massachusetts Solar and Wind Energy Credit?

If you purchased items that use solar or wind power as an energy source, you may qualify for a credit towards your Massachusetts income tax. This credit can only be claimed for items installed at your principal residence (the place you actually lived) and is limited to $1,000 for the entire time you lived there.

In order for a renewable energy source item to qualify, it must meet the following requirements:
  • You must be the first one to use the item.
  • It must be expected to last at least five years.
  • It must meet the performance and quality standards prescribed by the Massachusetts Commissioner of Revenue.
