Questions & Answers

What teaching expenses can I deduct?

If you're a full-time classroom teacher who teaches Kindergarten to grade 12 in an elementary or secondary school in the State of Maryland for an academic year ending during the taxable year, you may subtract up to $250 of unreimbursed expenses paid or incurred during the taxable year for the purchase of classroom supplies used by students in the classroom or you as the teacher to prepare for or during classroom teaching.

You may not subtract any expense that you already subtracted from federal adjusted gross income. If you're filing a joint return, you and your spouse may each claim up to the maximum amount allowed.
