The IRS is required to hold refunds that include the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until February 15th.
The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting the first week of March, if these taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.
This applies to the entire refund, not just the portion associated with the EITC or ACTC.
The IRS will begin processing and accepting tax returns as usual when the filing season begins. So you should go ahead and e-file before February 15th even if your refund will be delayed.
Check the IRS's Where's My Refund? tool after February 22nd for your refund status. It's updated once a day and is the best way to check the status of your refund.
Will my state refund be delayed too?
