What does the Affordable Care Act mean for me?

Did you have health insurance (including Medicare or Medicaid) all year?

  • YES - You're good to go. You may even qualify for the Premium Tax Credit (PTC) if you bought insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
  • NO - You may have to pay a penalty for the months you were uninsured unless you qualify for an exemption.

Premium Tax Credit

If you bought insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace, you may qualify for the Premium Tax Credit (PTC), depending on your income and family size. If you received any advanced payments of this credit, you'll need to determine how your actual Premium Tax Credit (PTC) compares to the advanced payments you already received.
