If you have dependents who don't qualify for the
Child Tax Credit, you may be able to claim the
Credit for Other Dependents. The maximum credit amount is $500 for each dependent who meets certain conditions, including:
-
Dependents who are age 17 or older.
-
Dependents who have SSNs, ITINs or ATINs. If you apply for an ITIN or ATIN on or before the due date of your 2025 return (including extensions), and the IRS issues the ITIN or ATIN as a result of the application, this counts as on time.
-
Dependent parents or other qualifying relatives supported by the taxpayer.
-
Dependents living with the taxpayer who aren't related to the taxpayer.
You can claim this credit if:
-
You claim the person as a dependent on your return.
-
The dependent is a U.S. citizen, national or resident alien.
