Where do I enter Schedule 3?

You do not fill out Schedule 3 directly. Instead, the software gathers the information and fills it out for you. Schedule 3 includes both refundable and nonrefundable credits as well as other payments. Here are the most common nonrefundable credits:

• Foreign Tax Credit, Form 1116
• Child and Dependent Care Credit, Form 2441
• Education Credits, Form 8863
• Retirement Savings Contribution Credit, Form 8880
• Residential energy credits, Form 5695
• General Business Credit, Form 3800
• A credit for people who paid the alternative minimum tax (AMT) on a prior tax return, Form 8801
• Adoption tax credit, Form 8839
• Credit for the Elderly or Disabled, Schedule R

Here are the most common refundable credits and other payments on Schedule 3:

• The Net Premium Tax Credit (PTC), Form 8962
• Amounts paid with your extension
• Excess Social Security tax withheld
