What happens if the IRS rejects my tax return?

You will receive an email giving the reason why your tax return was rejected. Your return may be rejected if you misspelled your name or entered your Social Security number wrong, but these errors are usually easy to fix. Sign in to your account, and fix any incorrect or missing information. Then e-file your tax return with the IRS again. We do not charge any additional fees to submit your tax return to the IRS again after the original e-filing was rejected.
