Do I need to enter last year's AGI for both myself and my spouse?
If you filed a joint return last year, tell us you both filed a 2024 return together on the Prior Year Return screen. We'll ask for the AGI from your 2024 return, then we'll transmit that amount for both you and your spouse when you e-file your return.
If you both filed a return last year but you didn't file jointly, tell us you both filed a 2024 return separately on the Prior Year Return screen. We'll ask for the AGI from your 2024 returns separately so you can enter the amounts shown on each of your separate tax returns.
If only one of you filed a return last year, tell us which one of you filed a 2024 return on the Prior Year Return screen. We'll ask for the AGI from their 2024 return. For the spouse who didn't file, we'll transmit zero for their 2024 AGI since this is what the IRS expects for anyone who didn't file a tax return last year.
If neither of you filed a return last year, tell us you didn't file a 2024 return on the Prior Year Return screen. We'll transmit zero for your 2024 AGI for both of you since this is what the IRS expects for anyone who didn't file a tax return last year.
