Who is an eligible individual for HSA contributions?

You're an eligible individual for HSA contributions if all of the following are true:
  1. You're covered by a high deductible health plan (HDHP).
  2. You're not enrolled in Medicare or any non-HDHP plan. Your spouse may be enrolled in Medicare or in a non-HDHP plan as long as that plan doesn't cover you.
  3. You're not another person's dependent.
Note: If the only reason you didn't remain an eligible individual during the testing period was because of death or becoming disabled, then you're still considered an eligible individual.

If you're no longer covered by a high deductible health plan (HDHP), you may still continue to use your HSA funds to pay for medical expenses. However, without HDHP coverage, you aren't eligible to make contributions.

We ask about eligibility to determine your allowable HSA contribution for 2025. If needed, you'll be able to enter your HDHP coverage information for each month.
