Traditional IRA: Your required beginning date is April 1st of the year following the year in which you reach age 73. This is the date by which you must start receiving distributions from your retirement plan.
Qualified Retirement Plans: (other than IRAs) and eligible section 457 deferred compensation plans, must begin receiving distributions from your plan no later than April 1st following the later of:
-
The year in which you reach age 73 or
-
The year in which you retire.
The RMD for any year after the year you turn 73 must be made by December 31st of that year.
If an IRA owner reaches age 73, but dies before April 1st of the next year, no minimum distribution is required because death occurred before the required beginning date. However, and inherited IRA RMD will begin by December 31st of the year after death.
