What is my main home?

Your main home is your principle residence. You can only have one main home at a time. Your main home can be a single-family house, condominium, mobile home, houseboat, or another housing facility.

If you only own and live in one home, that property is your main home.

If you live in more than one home, you'll need to decide what home is your main home. The home you spend the most time at is likely your main home. Here are some other things to consider when deciding what home is your main home:
  • The address listed on your:
    1. U.S. Postal Service address
    2. Voter Registration Card
    3. Federal and state tax returns
    4. Driver's license or car registration
  • The home is near:
    1. Where you work
    2. Where you bank
    3. The residence of one or more family members
    4. Recreational clubs or religious organizations of which you are a member
