Is private school tuition deductible?

There's not a federal deduction or credit for private school tuition for students in kindergarten to 12th grade (K-12). However, you can use Coverdell and 529 Education Savings Plans to pay for private school tuition for K-12 students.

If your school offers child care services before or after school, those costs can be used for the Child Care Credit.

If your child is attending a private college or university, that tuition may be eligible for an education credit such as the American Opportunity Credit.
