The easiest way to obtain a copy is to ask the employer who originally gave you the
W-2 to give you a copy.
If you filed your tax return with FreeTaxUSA, go to the Prior Year tab on the FreeTaxUSA homepage and sign into the prior year for which you want to view the
W-2 information. Then use the
Income menu to go to the
Wages (Form W-2) screen. You can then view the
W-2 information you entered in the software.
You can get a transcript of the tax return you filed which includes
Form W-2 information. The IRS
Get Transcript Online tool allows you to download your transcript immediately. A slower option is to mail in IRS
Form 4506-T to get the same transcript information.
You can also obtain a copy or printout of your
Form W-2 for any year from 1978 to the present through the
Social Security Administration (SSA). These copies are free if needed for a Social Security-related reason, but do require a fee for all other requests. See the
Social Security Administration website for more information.
