Rent Paid

There's not a federal renter's tax credit or federal rent deduction for your home if it's not being used for a business. However, several states do have a credit or deduction for rent paid. Many of these are only for low income taxpayers. If your state has a renter's credit or rent deduction, the FreeTaxUSA software will calculate if you qualify, and include the amount of the credit or deduction on your state return.
