What is Virginia Use Tax?

Virginia use tax applies to any item you purchased outside of Virginia for use within Virginia. You are only required to pay use tax if you did not pay an equivalent sales tax to the state in which you bought the item. Use tax can apply to items purchased for use in Virginia while traveling or items purchased online or from a catalog.
