Report rental income from real estate on
Schedule E.
However, if you provided substantial services to the tenant, sold real estate as part of a business, or rented out personal property as a business, report it on
Schedule C instead.
If your employer paid you to use your personal property (for example, your car) as part of your job, this should be reported as
Other Income on
Form 1040.
If you're not in the business of renting property, income from renting personal property would also be reported as
Other Income on
Form 1040. See
Publication 525 for more information.
You can tell us where you'd like to report it on the screen after adding your
1099-MISC.
