What do I enter as a description of property for an investment sale?

Enter the description from Column or Box 1a on your Form 1099-B or substitute statement. If you didn't receive a form or don't see the description listed, just enter a brief description of what you sold.

If you sold stock or debt instruments, enter the issuer's name and the number of shares or units that were sold.

If you are reporting nonbusiness bad debt, see Nonbusiness Bad Debt

If you sold digital assets, enter:
  1. The full name or abbreviated symbol of the digital asset
  2. The exact amount of units sold or disposed of in the transaction
  3. The sale transaction ID if available
Vacation home or land
Enter a description of the type of home you are selling and the address from Box 3 of your Form 1099-S. If you didn't receive Form 1099-S, just enter a description including the type of home and address of the home you are selling.

Personal items sold for a gain (1099-K)
Enter a description of the item sold (e.g. jewelry, couch, etc.).
