The Virginia Department of Taxation sends a 7-digit
Virginia Identity PIN to people who have contacted the Department because they were victims of identity theft.
Some details about this PIN:
- This PIN is not the same as the 6-digit Identity Protection PIN issued by the IRS.
- The PIN is only good for the year in which it is received. A new PIN will be issued each year.
- Failure to provide the Identity PIN that has been issued by the Virginia Department of Revenue could cause delays in the processing of your return.
- If a couple is filing Married Filing Jointly, and both spouses are issued PINs, only one PIN needs to be entered on the tax return.
