Can I deduct mortgage interest if I am a co-owner but my Social Security number isn't on the Form 1098?

If you are one of the owners of the home (such as, if you and your brother own a home together) and are making mortgage payments, you can deduct the mortgage interest that you actually paid even if you don't have a Form 1098.

For example: If you only own 50% of a home, but you are making all the mortgage payments for the home, then you would claim 100% of the mortgage interest on your tax return even if your name isn't on the Form 1098.
