What is a FATCA filing requirement?

The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) became law in March 2010. It's intended to make sure that taxpayers report foreign financial assets.

If the FATCA Filing Requirement is checked on your form, you may need to include Form 8938, Statement of Foreign Financial Assets with your tax return. You can go to the Statement of Foreign Financial Assets screen to determine if you need to enter any information about foreign assets you held.
