You can deduct your
medical expenses as an
Itemized Deduction as long as you weren't reimbursed by insurance or another source.
This includes expenses for you, your spouse, and your dependents.
Make sure you don't include any expenses that were paid with pre-tax money because you already got a tax benefit if they're paid pre-tax. Pre-tax means no tax was paid on the money so it is already tax-free.
Some examples of pre-tax expenses you should NOT include are:
- Health insurance premiums paid through your employer on your paycheck when they're paid pre-taxes
- Expenses paid with an HSA
- Expenses paid with an FSA
