Why did I get this rejection?
The IRS makes you enter your prior year
adjusted gross income (AGI) or the e-file PIN you selected last year to verify your identity when you e-file a return. If your return was rejected for an AGI or PIN mismatch, it means that what you entered doesn't match the IRS's records.
The IRS only requires the prior year AGI
or the PIN to match their records to get accepted. Most people use their prior year AGI.
How do I fix this?
You'll need to enter a correct prior year AGI or PIN and resubmit your return:
If you can't enter a correct AGI or PIN, you can mail your return here: Menu Path:
Final Steps > Step 3 - Submit Tax Return > Filing Method
Extensions Only: If your extension was rejected because the Prior Year AGI or PIN doesn't match the IRS records, you can also choose a different payment method for the amount you're paying with your extension. The IRS only requires a Prior Year AGI or PIN to e-file an extension if you're using direct debit to make your extension payment.
