If you had income from other states during the time you were a nonresident of Delaware, filing a
Nonresident Return may give you a lower tax.
Example: You lived and worked in Maryland for part of the year and then moved to Delaware. Since you earned wages in Maryland before moving to Delaware, you'll probably be better off filing a Delaware Nonresident Return.
If you did NOT have income from other states during the time you were a nonresident, filing a
Resident Return may give you a lower tax.
Example: You lived in Maryland for part of the year and then got a job and moved to Delaware. Since you had no income in Maryland before moving to Delaware, you'll probably be better off filing a Delaware Resident Return.
You must file a
Resident Return to claim the
Volunteer Firefighter Credit,
Child Care Credit, and
Earned Income Tax Credit.
