You should file as a nonresident of North Carolina if you made money in North Carolina during 2025 but you maintain your legal residence in another state or country, even though you may temporarily reside in North Carolina.

If you lived in North Carolina for more than 183 days during 2025 AND can't prove your residence in another state, you must file as a North Carolina resident or part-year resident.
