What if I don't want to pay anything now?
If you don't pay the taxes you owe by the April 15, 2026 payment deadline, you'll be charged interest and penalties by the IRS.
An extension of time to file is NOT an extension of time to pay.
If you estimated too high of a tax liability and you pay too much, you'll receive a refund when you actually file your return (by October 15, 2026).
If you estimated too little of a tax liability and you pay too little, the IRS will charge you interest and penalties on the amount you owe.
