South Carolina Extension

If you expect to owe South Carolina income tax and you need more time to file your return you can request an extension for your SC1040 individual income tax return. You must still pay the tax due by April 15, 2026.

We now offer the option to file your South Carolina extension and pay your tax due electronically through our website. Use Menu Path: Account > File an Extension . You can also request your extension by paying your balance due on South Carolina's free online tax portal, MyDORWAY  (Select Individual Income Tax Payment to get started, no additional form or paperwork is required). When you file your South Carolina return, answer Yes to the question asking if you filed a 2025 extension on the SC General Information screen.

If your federal extension request was granted and you don't owe any income tax, you don't need to file an SC4868 South Carolina extension. In this situation, the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) will honor your federal extension. You do not need to send the SCDOR a copy of the federal form by the due date of the tax return. When you file your South Carolina return, answer Yes to the question asking if you filed a 2025 extension on the SC General Information screen to indicate you filed a federal extension.

To file a federal extension or for help e-filing or filling out Form SC4868 to pay any South Carolina tax due by the due date: Menu Path: Account > File an Extension
