If you are filing for a deceased taxpayer or spouse, you can indicate on the Taxpayer Information or Spouse Information screens that the person has passed away. We'll print the needed information at the top of Form 1040, according to the form instructions.
If the deceased is due a refund, and you aren't a surviving spouse or court-appointed executor, you must also fill out the information for Form 1310 on the Deceased Taxpayer Information screen.
