How should I print my return if I'm mailing it?

Here are a few printing tips to help you avoid processing delays or errors when mailing your tax return:
  • When printing, make sure that Page Scaling is set to None or 100% and that Auto-Rotate and Center are both unchecked. See below for specific instructions for popular PDF viewers.
  • Print your return on high-quality white paper. We recommend at least 20 lb bond paper using black ink.
  • Print your return on one side of the paper only.
  • For best results we suggest you use the latest version of Adobe Reader. If you don't have Adobe Reader, you can download  it for free.
  • Mail in the copy that you print. Don't mail in a photocopy.
  • Don't make handwritten changes to your return. If you need to make changes and you haven't mailed your tax return, you can unlock your account and make changes to your information. If you've already mailed your tax return, you'll need to file an amended return.

Please carefully follow these instructions. Failure to properly print your return may result in tax errors, processing delays, or your tax return being rejected.

If you are having trouble printing your return, try using the Download button to download a copy of your return, then open and print this downloaded copy. This helps avoid any browser errors when printing.

If you are still unable to view or print your return, update or reinstall Adobe Reader. We have found that many printing problems can be solved by updating or reinstalling Adobe Reader.
